Our Licensing Model

We use a value-based licensing model where pricing reflects the scale of a project and the role typography plays within it. In most cases, font licenses are acquired by the client rather than by designers or agencies working on their behalf. As projects grow in scale, the value of typography naturally grows with them.

Based on this approach, pricing is determined by the total number of employees within the client’s organization — regardless of agency size, department structure, or how widely the fonts are used internally.

License Size and Duration

Choosing the right license size is often less complex than it may seem. We base all license sizes on a single factor: the total number of employees within the client’s organization.

All licenses are perpetual. Once acquired, they remain valid without expiration, renewal fees, or additional costs — even if the organization grows over time.

Licensing Process

Fonts can be downloaded as trials and used freely during the design process. These trial versions include the full character set and can be used for exploration, testing, and internal or client presentations.

A license is only needed once a project moves into production — for example when a brand goes live, a publication is printed, or a website is launched. That is when the end-user (mostly the client) should get a license.

Designers only need a personal license when using the fonts for their own independent projects. In that case, the designer is considered the end-user.

License Options

Trial License / Early Trial License
The trial license allows you to use our fonts in real design contexts before committing to a purchase. It is intended for exploration, testing, and presenting early ideas in internal settings, educational work, or client presentations.

Student License
The Student License is intended for non-commercial use during your studies. It supports learning, experimentation, and academic work. Professional use — including freelance, internships, or client projects — is not permitted and requires a commercial license. After graduation, use remains limited to non-commercial personal projects.

Desktop License
With a Desktop License, fonts can be installed on your devices and used to create static work across print and digital media. This includes posters, books, branding, imagery, objects, and other non-interactive design applications.

Webfont License
The Web License allows use of our fonts on a single website and its subdomains. It supports consistent typography across your online presence, without limitations on traffic. Additional websites require additional licenses.

App / Game License
This license covers the use of our fonts within a single digital product such as an app, game, or interactive experience. It applies where typography becomes part of the interface and the overall user experience.

Enterprise License
The Enterprise License covers broader or more complex use across organizations and media. It removes standard limitations and allows use across multiple applications and platforms. For tailored setups or large-scale use, please get in touch with us directly.

License Extensions

License extensions add rights beyond standard desktop, web, and app licenses. They apply to specific use cases that fall outside everyday usage. If your project requires an extension, please get in touch at license@softdrivefoundry.com.

Trademarked Logo
This extension applies when a logo created with our fonts is intended for trademark registration. Fonts may be converted into outlines during design work, but modification of the original font files is not permitted without prior approval.

Font Customization
Use this extension if you would like to modify the outlines of one or more glyphs in the typeface. We also offer custom modification services for more specific requirements. If you’re planning any adaptations, feel free to reach out.

Custom Font Naming
It is possible to adjust the name of a typeface — for example by adding a client or project name, or by renaming it entirely. If you would like to make changes to the font name, please send us a request.

Special Use Cases

We support cultural and non-profit projects with reduced pricing, while certain contexts require individual review.

Cultural and Non-Profit Discount
Cultural and non-profit organizations receive reduced pricing, which can be applied at checkout.

Political Use
Any use of our typefaces in political contexts — including campaigns, messaging, slogans, or visual identities by parties or organizations — requires prior approval from Softdrive® Foundry.

Religious Use
Any use of our typefaces in religious contexts — including campaigns, messaging, slogans, or visual identities by organizations — also requires prior approval from Softdrive® Foundry.
